Online discussion this Thursday of one data center director’s upgrade project gone bad

As part of AFCOM’s Meet-A-Speaker program, the organization’s president will hold a 30-minute online discussion with Mark Saussure, director, ITS data centers with Pennsylvania State University. The online discussion, at which participants can submit questions for Saussure, will take place from 1:00 to 1:30 pm EDT/10:00 to 10:30 am PDT on Thursday, July 26.

Saussure and AFCOM president Jill Yaoz will discuss some of the data center projects currently underway at Penn State. In providing an overview of the event, AFCOM explained, “During the conversation, Mark will preview a CRAC, sprinkler and UPS upgrade that started out well but just after getting underway had a catastrophic UPS failure that changed the entire scope and cost of the project.”

Worth it just to find out what went horribly wrong.
